Day 4.....Day 6

October 9 2023

Just like Duchess, he was someone's pet.   He was trained & he knows the rules.  He's a very sweet boy, so I don't know why they'd let him go /not look for him.      He's a lover.

Right now the cons are:

He's still got "Horney toad" hormones flowing through him. He keeps attempting to mount Ziva. She's shutting him down.  This will happen for approximately 6 weeks while the hormone levels drop.

He's not exactly "in" with the pack yet. That will come with time. Although his playing with them will hopefully help things along.

He's not learned the yard yet.  We need to get him both used to where he can & can't go AND learn the INV fence.

Otherwise he's a sweet boy.  Picking up the mantle of bringing "energy" to the group.

Day 6  10/11/23

Oh, wear to begin...
First, must be his non-Berner side...he's a barker.  He sees someone, he barks. He hears something he's unfamiliar with (the shredder, Clancy (robot vac), he barks.    The ball the cattle dogs play with, he barks.

It takes some getting used to ignoring.    But he's actively on patrol quite a lot.

He has a lot of Volos like qualities.

He does the nose punch to my arm when I'm working.
He loves running to play in the basement.
He makes these little moans & huffs that sound like him.
He's a little lover.

Peryn & his relationship is VERY much like Peryn's & Volos' was in the beginning. They've already gotten into it once.

He's obsessed with Ziva. She stops him, but it doesn't seem to get through to him. I need to start carrying around a spray bottle.

He is not shy about climbing on furniture.    He's not shy about jumping into my lap when I call him. And I do mean jump.

I was a little hesitant regarding him. Not sure how I should feel the first few days. However, I'm going to say, I adore him. He's a sweetheart.

He also LOVES getting brushed.  Volos did too, but Khors is king of loving getting brushed.  Turns him into a pile of mush

Alright, I was just interrupted there about a half hour ago.
Went to the basement at lunch time & something different happened.
Ziva went to play tug with me & Khors took the rope!  We had actual play!!! So Ziva who loves tug more than anything once again has a tug partner.
He plays much differently than Volos did, but this is a good thing.

Fall Update

So much time has gone by since our last update, I feel like there is so much I should have to tell.   However I don't think I can think of anything off the top of my head.

AS of late, I have been so busy with work, appointments, the dogs, and all that I don't have time to write.  Tues & Wednesdays are out. The dogs are home & demand so much freaking attention & participation from me that I do not have time to sit on the PC.

Also, the set up in my office--if I don't have my laptop plugged in there nothing is getting done.  I get so focused on work that everything else is out the window.

So the pups are mostly doing well.  The house is definitely chaos when they are home.  Their personalities all bring some sort of craziness to the table.   Lada with her extreme love of Mommy & fetch (only with a tennis ball!), Peryn with his demanding of fetch with whatever toy he drops at your feet or his goading Volos into chasing him. Volos who's newest love is to climb into Mommy's lap.   Yep. 68# of fur loves to be cuddled up with Momma.   I actually love it!  He's such a big baby.   He still loves hoarding all the toys, but "allows" Ziva to take what she wants.   He still plays with Lada in some of the calmer moments.   Then we have the baby, Ziva.

She is ....seriously we love this girl. She is so sweet & fun & energetic.  She loves play care.  Has a blast running all around.

She's SOOOOOOOOOO BIG.  We currently do not have any way to weigh her, but I just saw a post that her Mom is 101# & sister Rixie is 53#.  Ziva is on the lean side.  I'm going to say she's about 49ish #.   Not too far off from Volos!

Everyone loves her.  Seriously, day care we hear about how cute she  is. Rich gets stopped on his walks because people have to take a picture.    SHE LOVES EVERYONE.  This is the most well-adjusted dog I've had in.... EVER.

Good news/bad news.  Currently she seems to be favoring Rich over me.   Part of me is sad since I want ALL the puppies, but really this is what we wanted for him.  She is so over joyed when he comes home from work.  She also likes to climb into his lap for some interaction in the evenings.   Rich of course is so happy because Volos & Lada clearly prefer me.  Peryn is a mixed bag.  Hard to tell as he isn't a cuddly dog.

Rich takes her & Peryn on walks in the park at minimum 3x week. She tolerates it, but she'd rather be doing other things. She loves the interaction with the people & dogs she sees.

We went back to the farm & Janet (owner) was there with their pack of dogs. She & the dogs played with Ziva. Ziva was in heaven!  We haven't gotten to go back yet because one thing or another keeps us from going.

Ziva--loves her pack.  Whether or not they feel the same....shrugs.   Volos allows her to be right next to him in his spot, allows her to steal from him, PLAYS TUG with her, & just all around puts up with her.   She tends to stick by him the most.

Peryn-- he treats her like he treats the rest. He barks or growls at her for different things..... I'm waiting for the day they play tug.

Lada--She tolerates her. She deals with her being by Mommy when it's Lada cuddle time. She does play with her at day care from what I hear.  They've played here once that I saw.  I think they may have played tug.. Can't really remember.

So yeah, it is definitely more action around the house than previously.

On the downside,  as of late Little Z has had some GI issues.  A lot has to do with the stuff she tends to pick up on & chew (and swallow).  Last week she ended up eating a jar of my Eczema balm & I had to do an online chat with a Vet to determine if I needed to take her to my vet.   Luckily I didn't , but there were consequences from that.
Currently we're going on 36 hrs of issues.  Vet was closed today, so I will call in the am.   Rich & I said we wouldn't be surprised if she ate a rock or two.  This girl has been obsessed with the rocks that surround the patio.   This dog is constantly picking up things she is NOT supposed to have & chewing/swallowing.

She stole my Hawaiian Scooby off the shelf (AGAIN) & destroyed the grass skirt & tag.  It is extremely hard to find this one.  SO I am a tad bid upset about that.  She is getting taller, so she reaches higher. Takes things off the taller side tables.  Shoes. paperwork. Above mentioned balm.
We will be so glad when teething is over with.

SO as I said, she's having some issues that have gone on too long now.  So cha ching to the vet we will go. X-rays will probably happen.

So i think I am going to wind this up.  I need to go prep the pics to share with you.

Thanks for checking in.

What?! Two posts in one week?

Your eyes aren't deceiving you. We've posted twice this week.  The Daddyman is otherwise occupied, leaving time for Momma to play around. That doesn't happen often--so enjoy it.

Regular visitors may notice a slight change in layout & design.  Having had time, found the settings to make some long wanted modifications.    Once upon a time all I did was update and work on webpages and graphics.   That young lil lady eventually got a job, moved back to her home town and got lots and lots of dogs...  Bye bye free time.

So yes, I made some updates to the layout and colors.   Hope it makes reading easier.

Secondly, I'm writing to tell you about Volos.

Truthfully, I forget what I do write about. Throughout the week I often compose blog subjects in my head.  What actually gets posted is often a far cry from what I originally thought about. That being said-- Volos had a biopsy done on one of his growths. It was another mast cell tumor.   We decided to remove it being that it was the 3rd growth since we adopted him.

After the initial appointment we found another spot and another fast growing "growth" next to his eye. Thanks to Galen & Duchess, we recognized the eye one as a fatty tumor.

He had his removal surgery yesterday.  The other 2 are being sent for pathology to make sure we got them all and to find out if the 2nd one is a MCT.

Poor dude.  Picked him up and he was still drugged out and in the cone.  Cone FREAKED him out. Every time it made a sound or moved, he freaked and tried to escape...causing it to move and freak him out more.

His freaking out caused one of the wounds to seep.  I made a quick online purchase and went to pick up an inflatable collar.   Five minutes later, Dude is acting normal.

What didn't help during this time of being drugged and in a cone that freaked him out, my smoke alarm went off.   THAT WAS FUN.

He can't go to daycare for 2 weeks until his stitches are removed.  He stayed home and slept.  Part of it is because he's recovering and the other is he missed his siblings.    He came to life when they got home.

It will be a long 2 weeks I can tell you that.

The dogs were away from day care for 6 full days. Longest week of my life.   Wednesday I took them to the farm where snow was EVERYWHERE.   Lada was disappointed because she couldn't play fetch because the ball kept disappearing in the snow and neither she nor I could find it.
They did end up playing with the tug.

Volos LOVED IT. Snow and this dude....  He really came alive and wish I had been more ready with the camera.   Here are some pics & Vids from the visit..including 3 way tug!

Dogs, Dogs, and more Dogs....

 November 15 2020

Yesterday morning we headed out to Rocky River to meet up with a group of Berner owners. It was so awesome seeing so many of these big bears.   Peryn & Lada came along and had a blast running around with the others.
Volos...not so much. He was curious about the dogs, but preferred human company.

We didn't stay long (45 mins). Afterwards we decided to head to the ALDP to let the ACDs play with their herding ball.

THAT was a treat. When we arrived there were 3 other heelers.  We were in heaven. They ranged in ages from 9 months to 13+ years.

And there was also a Frenchie trying to be like a cattle dog.....

It was an PAWESOME MORNING
