Duchess

Adopted June 14, 2013 at approximately 4-5 years of age
Crossed the rainbow bridge: December 5, 2019
Named : Duchess
Breed: Boxsky  Boxer/Husky mix
NickNames: Pretty Girl

After Goldberg's passing, the plan was not to adopt any more dogs.   As Galen & Sheba got older we discussed the issue that if Galen went first (as it was looking like), Sheba would not handle being alone well.  If vice versa happened, we'd be ok, but we were  concerned about Sheba.   We decided to adopt an older dog that we wouldn't have to house train much and would be calmer around the older dogs.

Rich had an idea of what he wanted: a female. So as I looked and found posting for dogs, I would show him them.   Duchess was one that he liked and I followed up on.
I went down with the older two to meet Duchess and the introductions were great. They ignored her and she ignored them.   Exactly what I wanted.

She came home with us a few days later.   She was very chill when we first adopted her.  Very curious, but not hyper.   She took to Galen & Sheba. Galen, being a grumpy old man, seemed to have liked her.
Duchess and Sheba

Duchess was a dream. Fully trained and well behaved.  Not too hyper, at first. As she became comfortable in the house, she came out of her shell and we discovered she had a playful side. She often tried to engage Sheba, but Sheba was too old.

After Galen's passing, Sheba and Duchess grew very close.  It was obvious we made the right choice bringing in someone for Sheba.   We knew that Duchess would need someone to keep her busy when it was Sheba's turn to leave us.  That's what began the search for a companion.

Duchess is pretty reserved for the most part.  She's not the most affectionate or cuddly dog.  She is very protective of her family.  The only dogs she ever really plays with was Brinks and Athena. She sort of plays with neighbors MC & Bridger, but that is only to an extent.

At the dog park, she tends to go off by herself.  She only is interested in playing with bigger dogs.  She plays a bit rougher and I believe that is one of the reasons why she looks for the bigger dogs.    She has a crush on a wolf hybrid from the one dog park.

We believe she may have grew up on a farm at one time.  It's the little things we've witnessed.  Where she's from, and how she acts.
In fact, the one dog park we take her to is in farm country and she turns into a completely different dog when were are there.

Her little brother loves to play with her and Athena (separately). Duchess actually engages him quite often.
Yes?

She's big on "schedules" kind of like Galen. Don't try to break it.

She has a hedgehog that she loves.  Her spot is on the bed, cuddled up next to one of us. That's the extent of her affection.

She's calmed down over the past few years and really is a very well behaved dog....except for car rides....
