Happy Friday.
Another Volos update coming at you.....
First let me tell you...this dog LOVES..... LOVES!!!!!!!!!! Snow. He's a crazy loon when he gets out there. Never seen a dog so happy. Love seeing him so carefree.
Another thing--loves to go for car rides. ANYTIME the garage door opens he's out. He head over to the side of the car and looks at us and then back at the door. He really wants to go on a car ride.
He loves the pork rolls that we hand out. He will pick one up at the first chance he gets.
He seems to like toys that flop around....he has started picking them up and doing a quick shake--but nothing more than that. Give it time.
He seems to genuinely like (love?) us. HOWEVER...
the past 2 -3 days has been concerning.
Since day 1, he's always enjoyed my sitting down next to him and then loving on him. For the past few days, something about me seems to spook him. I have NO IDEA what it is nor is it constant.
For example-the past 2 mornings when I get up to let the dogs out--he's up and so happy to see me. He comes and rubs up on my legs and is so happy.
He'll randomly come over and want some loving and I'll give it to him.
Then -- later on I will go to him-whether it be in the crate or his room. I walk in and sit down and he gets up and leaves. I did it a couple of times without the other dogs around to see if it was them or me-- no, it's me.
Then later he'll come and want cuddles. Where he used to love my coming to him and loving on him--he's not seeming to like it.
Then just a half hour ago or so I took him out with me to get the mail and then across to the dog park. He was so happy to be there. I walked inside the park and he was running around me and just so happy that he was there and that I was with him.
When we went to leave he was still in his happy go lucky mode. He comes to me so I can put the leash on him and I don't know what it was, but he freaked and tried to get away (after I hooked it up).
He pulled so hard, he slipped his collar and took off.
LUCKILY-- he went straight home. When I came to the door, he was on the stoop and moved off and away as I came up. Then flew in the house.
Don't know what any of it was about.
Like I said it's only been the last 2 days. We've only gotten "stern" with him on a few occasions (usually associated with him in the garage), so it can't be that I yelled at him.
I guess we'll see.
And if you wanted to know about the biopsy-- got it all. Clear margins.
The craziest crew around. Dominating the couch at Daycare & showcasing their crazy antics at home-That's where we got our name. Current line-up: Peryn, Lada, Ziva & Khors. This crew is something...

Peryn chillaxin |
Today we took the pups to the park. It was a muddy muddy mess. They had a blast though.
When Peryn was young ..as in too young to go to dog parks or play with other dogs, we used to take the kiddoes to a park near us that was empty practically every time we went.
It was huge and it gave the dogs a chance to run free, play with one another , and acclimate Peryn to a dog park. It was also a great way to tire them all out.
That park has since been closed to the public, so we hadn't taken the dogs there at all. We knew of a large park that was somewhat similar in size that we did take the dogs to ONCE last year. WE drove out there today with Lada and the large dog side was empty!

Lada at 12 and 15 weeks |
Lada is doing well for the most part. We still struggle with her going in the house. We recognize the signs when she needs to go out and try to catch her. The struggle is after she's been out and comes back in then proceeds to go right there in front of you. Are you kidding me?

Duchess looking pretty |
Peryn & Lada are great together and there are no issues there. Athena & Lada are sweet together. Duchess and Lada ...that's funny stuff.
Duchess always comes across as ferocious with her deep menacing growl and bark. Plus she loves to play hard! Lada tends to bark more at her than play. Duchess TRIES to get her to play, but Lada just isn't there yet.
She's still small, much smaller than Peryn was at this age. She's 4 months on Friday and still just 13 lbs. We're expecting her to take after her Mom and be on the small side.
She's still a sweetheart and cuddler. Love her.

Ms Lada |
He's still attending day care and it's really helped with the energy. Now that he comes home to Lada--that really has worked wonders on him. I almost feel like I could trust him to be free when I'm not home.. A L M O S T He's gotten so big. It was like overnight, POOF!, he's bigger. Love that boy.
Duchess is even more cuddly than before. She's got competition and she's not letting them win. I like the new cuddly Duchess. Love my girl.
Athena is Athena. She's not changed a bit. Still sweet. Still as barky as ever.

Puppy Updates...
Hey all. Hope the summer treated you well. So those of you wondering how the pups are doing, here's your info:
DUCHESS:
She's becoming more social at the dog park. She's always been a bit of a loner. She'd be walking along the fence line or searching in the woods all by herself. She may run with a dog or two, but she's never really played with any dog. She's never been overly affectionate and tended to be aloof.
Prior to Peryn she would become playful with her food, tossing it in the air and such. She and I would play a bit after I gave her a cookie. She had her 2 stuffed animals: Lambchop & Hedgehog that she would play with on the bed.
She would play with Athena until Athena discovered other dogs, now they don't play (or I should say Athena doesn't really play with her).
Since Peryn though, the jealousy Duchess has is showing. She competes for attention from Peryn.
After getting over the initial "shock" of having Peryn in the house, she often played with him. Actually it was more of her pushing him around. Peryn loved it though and her rough play helped him out.
With our wanting to socialize Peryn as much as possible, we often had meetups with others to have the dogs play. This additional one on one time with other dogs has made Duchess a little more comfortable around other dogs.
While at the park she still tends to be by herself, she'll join in with the group more often than not.
Additionally at home she tends to seek out attention and affection much more often. While she still isn't very affectionate (she does NOT lick ) she has mellowed some. She tends to curl up against us all the time now. Her competition with Peryn has made her a much sweeter dog.
While the two of them do not play together as much, and I think that has to do with the constant exercise and dog park visits, pay too much attention to one or the other and a "fight" aka Playing starts.
Duchess is a good dog and very protective. I still don't trust her with strangers.
One good thing that has happened is now that the dogs play often with Huskies (remember Duchess is half Husky) things are better. I don't feel I have to explain her when she does some things (like her drive buys or aggressive play) because I'm with others who have dogs that are the same way.
So overall Duchess is good. She is "aging". Her snout which had been brownish when we adopted her 3 1/2 years ago is all white. I am unsure her exact age and that worries me as Duchess is my favorite dog of the current 3.
Current Likes: Loves Grafton, Kirtland, & Medina dog parks for their sizes. She loves Grafton because it is wide open and in the country. She LOVES the country. She loves Median for the woods. And she loves Kirtland for the water and the play area. She loves to splash. She loves to explore and run free.
Loves running with ponies. Loves her schedule: morning brusha and cookies & her out times.
Loves to lay or sit at the back of the yard, in the shade, and monitor. She loves to lay out on the patio and sun bathe.
Favorite toy: Anything that dispenses treats as she plays with it.
Car rides? She is a horrible traveler. HORRIBLE. She paces back and forth and whines and husky howls until she can stick her nose out an open window.
Favorite sibling: Peryn
ATHENA: Athena has come such a long way. I was looking through her paperwork from when we adopted her. She's gained weight (14 lbs),stronger legs, and her infections are gone.
Personality wise, Athena hasn't really changed much over time. She's pretty much the same dog as she's always been.
She really loves us and loves being with us. She loves playing with other dogs..sort of.
She'll play with Peryn, MC, & Bridger, but at the dog park she's happier to run after other dogs and bark at those wrestling.
She and Peryn are ok. Peryn loves to bug the crap out of her. He will "munch " on her as she goes up and down stairs.
They're more likely to play with one another than Duchess and Peryn would.
She loves loves loves going to the park to "play" with other dogs. She's still obsessed with smaller dogs as she tries to mother them. She tries to break up "fights" (dogs wrestling with one another) and sometimes ends up as a protector of weaker dogs by doing so.
She does not sleep in the bed with us as the uneveness of the bed bothers her legs. She still has weak legs from her life before us. While we've strengthened them by allowing her to play and walk, she still has issues with them. Her own bed is either the big chair next to the bed or the dog blanket/bed on the floor in front of it.
She has a bladder of steel and once she's in bed for the night, she won't get up until we force her out the next morning.
She's the best listener of the bunch. Call her once or ask her to stop and she does. She is a barker. I call her Barky Bark and the Furry Bunch...
Current Likes: If the place has dogs, she loves it. She loves other dogs.
She's a doll who loves to be outside. She could be outside watching all day long if we would let her.
Favorite toy: Rocky the Raccoon.
Car rides? She is a horrible traveler. HORRIBLE from the minute she got in the car with us. She's better than she was, but only if no one (Duchess or Peryn) encroach on her space in the car.
Favorite sibling: Peryn

PERYN the Pup: Peryn. Peryn. Peryn. Lil dude is a handful. He's an extremely happy dog who loves his Mommy very much. He loves Daddy too, but it's like a 60/40 attachment with Mommy being 60. Personally I think it's more, but we don't want to upset Daddy!
Peryn loves playing. Other dogs, balls, toys, anything he finds on the floor, the tie outs...
He is full of life and loves to show it. He still is not to be trusted alone, so is crated during the day.
He loves to swim, play rough with his friends, and most importantly FETCH. The dog can play FETCH non-stop for hours if you have it in you to keep up.
He LOVES bodies of water. He loves to run, play, & swim in water. It's going to be a long winter for him.
If you read up on Cattle Dogs, he's matches everything perfectly. He has more than the regular puppy exuberance. We've had 2 dogs at the 9-10 month age and neither of them had Peryn's energy. We've discovered that if he is not regularly exercised, he's a monster.
He will chew anything he finds, walk all over Mommy in the middle of the night, and just bug the heck out of you until you play.
We started him in day care 2 days a week-starting last week. A big difference it's making. It makes dealing with him the rest of the day and the whole next day much more bearable.
Yay!
He has a few friends he LOVES to play with: MC, Akira, Apollo, & Kato (last 3 are huskies)
Current Likes: Fetch, balls(Squeakier the better), going on rides, parks, other dogs, walks, playing
Favorite toy: ALL
Car rides? He's WONDERFUL in the car. He's like Galen was. Quiet, comfortable, and enjoyable. He is a great traveler.
Favorite sibling: to play with: Athena. TO sleep around & run with: Duchess.

We're still here
Hello. It's been awhile. I've been busy and so have the pups. We've been taking them to parks to get a workout and the Man has been taking them on walks. Didn't mean to neglect the blog.
They're doing quite well. They're looking healthier than they have in ages. They're definitely happier and more relaxed over all.
We went to 2 Husky meets (an official and an unofficial) this month. Both were held at this fabulous dog park a bit of aways drive. It's beautifully upkept and the gating is great. Plus....the best part...it tires the little blue monster out. Love it.
Turns out Peryn REALLY loves water and playing with other dogs. Oh and fetch....oooh does he looovvveee fetch......a lot. Like A LOT. ;)
Peryn got to meet his grandparents earlier than planned. It was an unfortunate situation that made it happen, but he got to meet them and see Uncle Davey again.
Next week we will be attending a Cattle Dog cookout /meet up. The girls are staying here as they do not travel well and we'd rather not have to deal with them that day. They'll be taken care of so no worries there.
Peryn is the chillest of passengers in a car. Love that little dude. He's a joy most days. He's also a little monster..

Hey! Thanks for checking in.
The pups are doing well. Actually, right now Athena is a bit off.
Last night Mommy had a bunch of girlfriends over and she was in the middle of all the craziness. I think it took a lot out of her. Today she's been dragging. Hopefully she'll be up and at 'em tomorrow.
Peryn....Well, the day after the last post we attended his first Husky Meet. For those new readers who are saying "But he's not a Husky",, you are sort of correct. He's an "honorary" husky. His big sis Duchess is half husky and we belong to a wonderful group called N.O.H.M.E. We went to their May meet, which was also Peryn's first REAL forray into a busy dog park. Crazy huskies everywhere and he was in LOOOOOVVVEEEE. Never seen a dog so happy.
Thanks to all his practice with his big sisters, he wasn't too fearful of all the big dogs. He's a little cautious when meeting a new dog, but he'll still play. Thank goodness!
He's gone to the dog park several times since being cleared and clearly loves it. Many love him as well with him being a puppy and a Cattle Dog at that. You don't see many ACDs around here, so it's a novelty to many.
Today he went to a mini-puppy meet with the NOHME group. He has one husky that he's played with several times now, Apollo. They played for quite a bit today. While Peryn isn't knocked out, he is rather 'chill', which is unusual for him.
He loved my get together last night. So many women, so little time. LOL.
He's getting to be such a handsome pup. He's 35+ lbs of energy. He loves life...Such a happy little guy and so friendly. I adore my little boy.
I'm really anxious to find out how big he's going to get. I know his parents were in the 45 lb range, but it doesn't necessarily mean he'll be that exactly. I want him to grow a little bit, he's still too small and sneaky...
Duchess...... well in 2 days we are celebrating her Gotcha Day. 3 years with us. So much has happened in that time. The face of the family has changed drastically.
At the time we had Galen and Sheba. They were 14 and 13 respectively. We knew Galen was deteriorating and that Sheba would NOT handle the loss well. She had never been an only dog and Galen was her bonded brother and best friend.
TO prep for that time we decided to get an older dog (non puppy) to help ease the loss when the time came.
We were looking for a calm dog that would not be too energetic with our old fogey's.
Along comes a forwarded post on FB about a "german shepherd" mix. I call for a meet & sniff. Took Galen & Sheba to meet the dog. Fell in love with her on the spot. Came by 4 days later to pick her up and take her home.
She was wonderful with them and did the job when Galen left us 7 months later.
She is very smart, house-trained, and knew all her commands.
While she's not an overtly affectionate dog, she does love us.
It was quite a surprise when we did the DNA test to get back that she was not even shepherd-She was half boxer and half husky. Once we knew what to look for we can't believe we didn't see it earlier. There is no doubts in our mind now that she is indeed a "boxsky".
I wish I knew how old she really was, but I'm also fine with not knowing "how much time" I may have left. I love this girl and she is my baby.
I'm going to leave some photos here of Duchess in celebration of her Gotcha Day. If you'd like to see newer pics of the pups, check out the New Photos page.

Daddy, Me, & Peryn |
HI! Athena here. It's been cray - zeee. I'm worn out all the time. This little brother thing isn't all fun and games I tell you.
So.....what seems like forever ago, but Mommy only tells me it's been 3 weeks, Duchess ran away. She says she was exploring for intruders, but let's call it what it was ..running away.
Daddee had to wake mommy in the middle of the night and then they were yelling and yelling for her. Daddee went off in the car and then came back and then he went off in the woods calling for her.
Mommy took me and Peryn with her in the car and we drove all over. Mommy had all the windows open and was calling over and over for Duchess.

Me n Daddy |

Daddy was happy and we all went to bed. THEN....ha ha Duchess is on the tie out all the time now. Mommy told her she couldn't trust her. Which means they trust me because I am not on a tie out. I am awesome.
Well, I don't know if this is related or not but then Mommy went missing for DAYS. She put all her human fur in those square thingy's and she went away. Then forever later (it was forever) she came back and smelled. She smelled of another doggy and gramma and grandpa .....and did I mention -another doggy. She left US for another doggy. HMPHF.
Well she tried bribing us by taking us to the park ....it worked ...a bit....maybe.
Daddy is walking us again! Isn't that awesome? Duchess and me like the old days. Peryn goes by himself.......not sure how I feel about that.
I still hang with boyfriend and bestie...so things are decent.

Field Trips, Exhaustion, Week 4, 9 Weeks Old.......
Hey hey!
Welcome back. Life with a puppy is crazy. I never realized how good we had it with a 4 month old puppy like Galen. I don't know where we'd be if we didn't have the girls to help take on some of the pups crazy energy.
He's growing like crazy. It's really unbelievable. Even though he's still to young to really hold his bladder, he's doing a good job. The past few days we had a 5 hour and a 4 hour night between breaks.
It really wouldn't be so bad if he didn't insist I escort him out on the break. He refuses to go out by himself unless I'm out there with him. He'll do it without me if the girls go out with him--but I still have to walk him off the patio. It's COLD out!!!
Working with him on the training. The only things he seems to comprehend is Potty & sit. He "knows" Paw, but it's hit or miss if he decides to do it. We started with Come and Lay Down today, but that we'll work on until he gets.
The girls have had a rough few days. He's tired them out! Pooped. No more energy. Leave me alone. They're not up to his speed. He likes that he has two different play mates with different play types. Athena is the typical doggy wrestling type that she does with MC & Bestie. Duchess on the other hand is really rough. She pushes him around with her head. He LOVES it. He goes jumping at her. He and her go at it every morning. I love seeing Duchess getting play time.
We've discovered his love of fetch. When the girls haven't worn him out, a game of fetch will do the job.
This weekend we were 'kidnapped' for an experiment/field trip. Hubby forgot his phone at work, so we packed up the car with the girls & Peryn in his crate. Drove most of the way there before he realized he forgot his entrance key. Turned around to get it and go back to work. (25+25+40=90 min ride there). The girls were getting agitated. Peryn slept in his crate. I happened to remember seeing a dog park not too far from his work, so after he was done we headed there. It was empty like I figured and we let the 3 dogs go wild. IT. WAS. AWESOME!!!!! Peryn had a blast running around with his sisters. The girls got to run off the nervous energy and we were tiring out the pup!
The ride home and the rest of the day was wonderful. They were so mellow. Most of today, Sunday, was like that as well. Their energy has returned this evening and they just came in from playing.
Peryn has taken to MC next door. Their tie outs reach just far enough for them to greet each other and do a little wrestling. We definitely have a social pup.
I'm sad to see the puppy grow up, but he's going to be such an awesome dog as he gets older. Part of me cannot wait. He's already jumping up on furniture without assistance. No where is safe for Athena now.
He sleeps in his crate, but one of our daily routines is to have him hang out with Mommy in the bedroom before Daddy retires for the night. He'll play a bit and then come hang out on the bed with Duchess & Mommy. He'll cuddle with either Duchess or Mommy. He'll stay there until Daddy comes and gets him. When Daddy's ready for bed, in the crate he goes. He accepts it now with little or no complaint. Sleeping through the night is a dream of ours.
