Galen was pretty dang smart & he was really good about telling us what he wanted.
If he barked at us or came up to us to get our attention, all we had to do is ask "Show me" or "Show me what you want".
He would always take us to the issue. Whether it be the door to outside, his bowl, the bed...he would show us.
He also had a little thing about abusing this power. The first story is from 2005 when we went on a cruise. My brother kindly dog sat a few nights for us. Galen ruined it for us the first night. Woke Dave up in the middle of the night like he needed to go to the bathroom.
Dave got up and Galen proceeded to jump into the bed to take his spot. This wasn't a surprise as he's done it before.
He had only kept to the bed most of the time. However in 2010-2011 he did it in a BIG way. We had our neighbors over for a game night. We had this trivia game on the Play Station & we were all playing. I was sitting on the ottoman by the window.
He came over barked at me to follow him so I did. He wanted to be let out. I let the dogs out. When they were done, I proceeded to go back to my spot. About 10 mins later, he did it again. Exasperated to get up again, I got up to follow him only for him to claim my seat.
See, the ottoman at the window was the dogs spot-most especially Galen. He had our friends in stitches with that stunt.
Last night I was sleeping & Volos was poking at me. He wanted me to get up. I grudgingly get up to head to let them out only to see his butt climb the bed stairs so he could get in.
Peryn had been hovering over the top of the steps & not allowing him to pass. Volos took it upon himself to fix the situation. I've never been irritated and amused like that in a long time. Couldn't believe it.
Then again, Galen was my heart dog. The one who stood out amongst them all. Volos though is my soul dog. I love this dog with all of my being. He reminds me a lot of Galen and this just was the cherry on top.
My dogs are too clever for their own good.
